How to use Image Converter

  1. 1Add images

Choose or drop JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF or HEIC images. Several at once is fine.

  2. 2Choose the output format

Pick JPG, PNG or WebP in Convert to. AVIF also appears if your browser can encode it.

  3. 3Set quality and background

For JPG, WebP and AVIF set the Quality. For JPG, choose a Background colour for transparent areas.

  4. 4Convert and download

Press Convert and download each file, or a ZIP for batches.

Convert images to the format you need

Different formats suit different jobs, and not every app accepts every format. Websites hand out WebP images that Word and older apps can’t open; iPhones save HEIC, which Windows and many upload forms reject; designers need PNG with transparency; and online forms usually want JPG. This image converter reads all the common formats and writes the ones you need.

Reads: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC.

Writes: JPG, PNG and WebP – plus AVIF when your browser supports encoding it. The tool checks this automatically and only shows formats your browser can create.

Which format should you choose?

FormatBest forTransparencyNotes
JPGPhotos, forms, emailNoAccepted everywhere; small files
PNGLogos, screenshots, graphics with textYesLossless; larger for photos
WebPWebsitesYes25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality
AVIFModern websitesYesOften smallest; slower to encode; not accepted by all apps

If you are unsure, choose JPG for photos you are sending to people or uploading to forms, and PNG for anything with sharp edges or transparency.

Quality

For JPG, WebP and AVIF, the Quality slider trades file size for detail. High settings are visually identical to the original for most photos; lower settings shrink files further. PNG is lossless, so quality does not apply. If you need a particular file size, use Compress Image, which can aim for a target in KB or MB.

Transparency and background colour

JPG cannot store transparency. When converting a transparent PNG, WebP or GIF to JPG, the tool fills transparent areas with the Background colour (white by default) – this prevents the black or checkered backgrounds some converters produce. Pick a colour to match the page or document where the image will go.

Common conversions

  • WebP to JPG – open images saved from websites in any app.
  • PNG to JPG – make screenshots and graphics smaller for email.
  • JPG to PNG – needed for some editing tools; note that converting to PNG does not restore detail lost to JPG compression.
  • JPG or PNG to WebP – speed up a website.
  • HEIC to JPG – share iPhone photos with Windows users; for large batches see HEIC to JPG.
  • BMP to PNG – shrink old uncompressed bitmaps dramatically without loss.
  • GIF to PNG – take a sharp still frame.

Batch conversion

Add as many images as you like; they are converted with the same settings and offered as a ZIP download. Original file names are kept with the new extension.

Metadata

Converted files are re-encoded and do not include the original EXIF metadata, including GPS location. To strip metadata without converting, use EXIF Remover.

Vector formats

This tool works with pixel images. To turn an image into a scalable vector, use Image to SVG; to turn an SVG into PNG or JPG, use SVG Converter.

Privacy

All conversion happens in your browser with its built-in image codecs. Files never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Add the WebP image, choose JPG in Convert to and press Convert. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose.

How do I convert PNG to JPG without a black background?

Choose JPG and set Background colour to white (the default) or any colour. JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels need a fill.

Can I convert to AVIF?

Only if your browser can encode AVIF – the option appears automatically when it can. All modern browsers can read AVIF files as input.

Does it convert animated GIFs?

The first frame of a GIF is converted to a still image. Animation is not preserved.

Can I convert HEIC iPhone photos?

Yes. HEIC photos are decoded in the browser. For large HEIC batches, HEIC to JPG is tailored to that job.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion runs on your device.
